Town took to the field in their new change kit kindly sponsored by Chris Andrews of CPA Scaffolding.
The game started at quite a pace as Town took the game to the league leaders who were forced to defend as Town created chance after chance.
Dean Bevis headed against the bar and then prodded the rebound against the foot of the post. The Lower Stratton keeper produced a string of good saves and it started to look as though it could be one of those days.
The goal eventually came when top scorer Simon Nelmes finished calmly and eased the growing frustration.
A second goal followed before half-time when Darren Crook closed down a defender and blocked his clearance. The ball went into the net to give Crook a slightly fortunate but deserved goal.
The first half saw Town totally dominate the game and play some of the best football they have played all season.
Lower Stratton came out for the second half determined to show why they are top of the league and the game became a little more even. Despite that Town still created a string of chances and on another day they could have scored four or five.
A defensive mix-up allowed Lower Stratton their first real chance of the game and they took full advantage to halve the deficit and create some unnecessary anxiety for the home side.
Town played out the last few minutes relatively comfortably and their task was made easier when Lower Stratton were reduced to ten men shortly before the end.
Town played some great football in the first half and then showed their battling qualities when they needed to in the second half. This was an excellent win and certainly gets the promotion push back on track.
