In awful conditions this afternoon Town got themselves back on track with an excellent 1-0 win at a rain and wind swept Chiseldon.
The first half saw Town play some excellent football and create a number of chances. Simon Nelmes, Ollie Smith and Ian Pearce all went close but the goal wouldn't come. After half an hour the excellent Dean Bevis drove the ball across goal and the Chiseldon defender clearly used his hand to block it. The referee pointed to the spot and Bevis made no mistake to take Town into the break 1-0 up.
With conditions getting worse by the minute in the second half the fact that Town had travelled with no substitutes began to take it's toll. Chiseldon used all their subs and the fresh legs on an incredibly heavy pitch piled the pressure onto Town.
Despite the pressure Town defended brilliantly and on the rare occasion that Chiseldon found their way past the back four they found keeper Chris Smith in fine form.
Town continued to be dangerous on the break and Dave Pearce and Dean Bevis both nearly doubled the lead.
In the dying seconds of the game Chiseldon managed to work a free header from six yards and Town had Smith to thank for making a truly stunning save, tipping the ball over the bar.
This was a performance full of skill, determination and team spirit and Town deserved their hard earned three points.
