Today saw a very good run out for many of the first team squad as they took on Dorset Premier League side Blandford United.
The final result saw Town defeated 5-1 but the game was anything but as one sided as it sounds.
The first fifteen minutes saw Town play some decent football and create chances but the Blandford keeper was in inspired form and kept the scores level despite some fine efforts by Gary Hooker and Toni Camilleri.
Some defensive frailties allowed Blandford to go into a 3-0 first half lead despite the fact that they only created two real chances. The third goal being an unfortunate own goal.
After the break Town continued to play some good stuff and when Gary Hooker was brought down in the area, skipper Dean Bevis reduced the deficit from the spot.
A second own goal restored Blandford's three goal lead and as Town tired towards the end the home side added an undeserved fifth goal.
There was still time for the Blandford keeper to make exceptional saves from Gary Hooker and Ollie Smith to make the final score look a little unfair on Town.
Manager Graham Fisher was pleased with the run out despite the result,
"There were a lot of positives to come from the game today and if the final score had been 3-3 I don't think Blandford would have complained. We gave away some silly goals and that won't happen as the season develops. I was happy with the level of performance and I was happy with the fact we tried to play decent football. Obviously I'm not thrilled with being beaten 5-1 but on the whole, I think today was a good effort and will help us no end in our attempts to make a big step up this season."
